Teesdale is a hidden gem, an area with waterfalls, wooded valleys, open moorland and magnificent views. Doe Park Caravan Site is located in the heart of Teesdale within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
High Force, in Upper Teesdale is the highest waterfall in England and is well worth a visit. The River Tees plunges dramatically over the Whin Sill to create a mighty spectacle and can be seen from the Pennine Way which passes close by.
Barnard Castle. The main market town in Teesdale is rich in history. The town, named after the magnificent Norman castle around which it is built, has many fascinating shops and is an excellent centre for antique collectors. There is a lively street market every Wednesday and a farmers market held on the first Saturday of every month. The Bowes Museum, a magnificent building housing a wonderful collection of European painting, ceramics and furniture is a short walk from the centre of the town.
Middleton in Teesdale, gateway to the Upper Dale, has a fascinating history of lead mining and can be reached from Doe Park by foot along the Teesdale Railway Walk.
Teesdale has a rich and varied heritage, earlier famous visitors who were inspired by the area are JMW Turner, the great landscape painter and Charles Dickens, the Victorian author who featured locations in the dale in the novel Nicholas Nickleby.
Raby Castle, the home of Lord Barnard is situated in the village of Staindrop and is one of the country's most impressive medieval castles with beautiful gardens and a large deer park.
The Pennine Way and the Teesdale Way pass close to Doe Park and can be accessed easily and there are miles and miles of quiet footpaths to explore from the site.

Hamsterley Forest offers picnic areas, walks, nature trails, mountain bike trails and cycle hire.
Bowlees Picnic Area, between Middleton in Teesdale and High Force is ideal for families and offers easy access to the stunning Low Force Falls and Gibson's Cave.
Private river fishing is available at Doe Park and can also be enjoyed on Teesdales local reservoirs which are a short drive away. There are also lovely walks around the reservoirs, made famous as the isolated home of Hannah Hauxwell who now lives in Cotherstone village.
Teesdale Sports Centre is located in Barnard Castle and offers a range of swimming, sporting and childrens activities. Visitors can enjoy the benefits of corporate membership and enjoy these facilities at a reduced rate.
Sailing, golf and horse riding is also available close by.
